lorry driving in sunset

This is one of the most common questions that we come across when our customers make their enquiries about our lorry rental. If it’s your first time enquiring for a lorry rental, we’ll have to say that it depends on the amount of stuff you have and your moving purpose.

It can be difficult to estimate the size of your lorry rental, given that a wrong guess may mean you won’t have enough space for all your stuff or overspending on a lorry that’s just too big. You’ll also have to make several trips to completely move all your stuff which means more spending more on fuel.

Additionally, having a lorry that’s either too small or too big can be a haphazard during the moving process. You may risk damaging some of your belongings if you didn’t stack them accordingly. Same goes to hiring a lorry that has too much room for your moving process.

Either way, you’ll need to rent a lorry that’s just right for you. For you to find the right-sized lorry, you need to take note of the amount of stuff you have and create an inventory. That way, you can have a rough idea of what lorry to rent.

Create an inventory

Your first step before renting a lorry will be to create a list of things you’re planning to bring to your new house. If you’re not sure of where to start, you can break down the list based on the number of rooms in your house.

Bear in mind that you’ll also need to consider the sizes and type of furniture you’ll be moving. Start with the most visible furniture in the room and move on to the least visible ones. That way, you can reduce the potential of leaving out anything small like your table lamp or side table.

Types of lorry

Once you’ve come up with the inventory, it’s time to find out which type of lorry can fit all of your stuff. At LCH Logistics, we offer three types of lorries with a size ranging from 10 feet to 24 feet.

10 feet lorry rental

If you only have several things to move like your bed frame, mattress, dresser, and some boxes containing most of your belongings, a 10-feet lorry will suffice. This small-sized lorry is also ideal for those moving to a studio or one-room apartment.

Make sure you pack up the lorry the right way to avoid waste of space and time. Load up the big pieces first and then pile in the smaller pieces. It’s like playing the tile-matching game except the blocks will be your furniture and boxes.

If you’re concerned about your budget during the moving process, you needn’t worry as you can rent this lorry for $50 per hour.

14 feet lorry rental

A slightly bigger lorry than the 10-feet truck will be the 14-feet truck. This mid-sized lorry is ideal for those moving out of a 2-room house as it can fit more of your stuff (that’s if you have a lot of things to move).

Let’s say you’re planning to move from Singapore to Johor. You may be stuck in traffic on the Johor-Singapore Causeway for a few hours, which may cause you more time and fuel. Luckily, your 14-feet lorry is capable of handling a long-distance move. You can rent this lorry for $65 per hour.

24 feet lorry rental

If you’re looking to rent a bigger lorry than the above, this 24-feet lorry can fit most of the things you intend to move. This large-sized lorry is ideal for those moving out of a three-room house or larger. That way, you won’t have to worry about making several trips to complete your house move.

With a 9-tonne capacity, this 24-feet lorry can certainly handle the weight of your washing machine, dryer, and refrigerator. Just be sure to load and strap them in the truck properly to prevent any damages while you’re moving. The rental cost of this lorry starts from $90 per hour.

Should you require more details about the lorry, be sure to ask about the dimensions, cubic space, and maximum weight load. That way, you can have a rough idea of how big the lorry is and whether it’ll be enough for your move.

Now that you have a slight idea of how big the lorries are, it’s time to enquire about the costs and additional services. Before you decide on your lorry rental, be sure to get a few quotes from the logistics companies to ensure that you get the best deals possible.

Planning for a DIY relocation can be tricky if you don’t start early. So, gather your resources and make a plan that works for you. That way, you don’t have to scramble for time when it comes to your lorry rental.
